A 37-year-old woman has been charged following an investigation into sexual allegations at a Blenheim school.

Police said the woman, understood to be a former teacher at Marlborough Boys’ College, would appear at the Blenheim District Court on Monday charged with sexual connection with a young person under 16 and intentionally exposing a young person to indecent material.

As the matter is now before the courts no further details would be released, police said.

A mother of one of the boys interviewed as part of the investigation said she was pleased to hear there had been an arrest.

A Ministry of Education spokeswoman said the ministry was unable to comment on the arrest.

Police launched an investigation in May and the woman took leave from the school.

She hired high-profile lawyer Jonathan Eaton, QC, who obtained a high court injunction to prevent her name being made public.

Board chairman Sturrock Saunders said in June that the teacher’s employment at the school had since “concluded”.
